Postpartum Weight Loss Journey
Hi diary readers! OK the real secret to my postpartum snapback is.....breastfeeding. I honestly haven’t changed anything drastically with my eating habits although I pretty much eat healthy anyway—thanks to my Dietitian background. And as far as exercise, my exercise intensity is way lower compared to my pre-pregnancy exercise routine.
My breastfeeding testimony is that weight loss is basically effortless. You literally don’t have to do anything other than breastfeed, which on average you burn about 500 calories per day (https://www.thelactationnutritionist.com/post/how-many-calories-does-breastfeeding-burn-with-calorie-calculator). Breastfeeding is basically like a two for one special—feed baby and lose weight.
I’m not exactly where I want to be, but I’m not beating myself up about it, because at the end of the day I’m only seven months postpartum. Remember, it takes nine months to make a completely fully developed baby.
Here’s a breakdown of my weight loss journey:
Pre-pregnancy weight = 165 lbs
Nine months pregnant = 194.4 lbs
Seven months postpartum= 155.6 lbs
Although I knew weight loss was an outcome of breastfeeding, I definitely wasn’t expecting to lose this much weight from breastfeeding. I’m almost at my goal weight of 150 lbs. Once I reach this goal, I plan to focus more on toning. Everyone’s postpartum weight loss journey is different, and that’s okay! If you're down with breastfeeding, spread the word, because breastfeeding will get you snatched!
